Corkscrew is an advanced Pilates exercise that combines core strength, spinal control, hip mobility, and coordination. Because it builds upon movements such as Rollover, it requires significant strength, flexibility, and body awareness. During pregnancy, this may be a movement that no longer feels comfortable—and that's completely okay.
Some experienced Pilates practitioners may continue to perform a modified version of Corkscrew during pregnancy if their body feels supported and capable. Others may find that lying on their back, rolling over the shoulders, or rotating through the hips no longer feels appropriate due to changes in strength, balance, comfort, or symptoms such as heartburn. Every pregnancy is different, and there is no single path that every woman will follow.
This lesson is included to help you understand the movement and recognize how your body responds, not to encourage you to push beyond your comfort level. If Corkscrew no longer serves your body during pregnancy, simply skip it without guilt. There are many other ways to build strength, mobility, and control throughout your Pilates practice.
Above all, trust yourself. Pregnancy is not about checking every exercise off a list—it's about moving in a way that leaves you feeling stronger, more confident, and more connected to your body. Some movements will remain part of your practice, while others will naturally be set aside for a season. Both are signs of wisdom, not weakness. Listen to your body, give yourself grace, and remember: the movement may change, but the purpose stays the same.
