Spine Stretch is one of the most accessible and beneficial movements during pregnancy because it creates space for your growing belly while encouraging healthy spinal mobility and flexibility. Sitting tall with your legs comfortably apart, you'll gently round forward through the spine, reaching only as far as your body allows before returning to an upright position with control.
As your pregnancy progresses, your range of motion may naturally become smaller—and that's perfectly okay. Whether you lean forward a few inches or move into a deeper stretch, you're still creating length through your spine, relieving tension in your lower back, and gently stretching your hamstrings. Every movement has value, regardless of how far you go.
Throughout the exercise, focus on moving one vertebra at a time, allowing your breath to guide the motion. You may choose to pause at the end of your stretch for a few gentle pulses before slowly stacking your spine back to a tall, supported posture.
This is one of those movements that reminds us Pilates isn't about achieving the deepest stretch—it's about moving with awareness. Give yourself the space your body needs today, breathe deeply, and enjoy the feeling of length, release, and renewed posture. Sometimes the smallest movements create the biggest difference. As always, move with intention, listen to your body, and give yourself grace. The movement may change, but the purpose stays the same.
