The Saw is a beautiful movement that combines spinal rotation, side-body lengthening, and flexibility in one flowing exercise. During pregnancy, this movement often remains comfortable because your legs are positioned wide apart, creating space for your growing belly while allowing you to move with confidence and control.
As you rotate and reach your pinky finger toward the opposite pinky toe, focus on creating length through your spine rather than trying to touch your foot. The opposite arm reaches toward the ceiling, encouraging an opening through the chest and a deep stretch along the side of your body. At the end of each repetition, add a few gentle pulses before returning to a tall, supported seated position.
Your range of motion may naturally become smaller as your pregnancy progresses, and that's completely normal. Whether you reach all the way to your foot or simply lean forward a few inches, you're still improving spinal mobility, stretching the hamstrings, and creating valuable movement through the back and torso.
This exercise is a wonderful reminder that Pilates isn't measured by how far you reach—it's measured by how intentionally you move. Meet your body where it is today, enjoy the stretch, and appreciate the space you're creating through every breath. Move with intention, listen to your body, and give yourself grace. The movement may change, but the purpose stays the same.
