Modified One Leg Circle

One Leg Circle is a wonderful exercise for maintaining healthy hip mobility, control, and stability throughout pregnancy. Begin by extending one leg toward the ceiling while the opposite leg remains grounded. With your arms pressing gently into the mat, guide the lifted leg through smooth, controlled circles, always returning to your starting position. The goal is not to make the biggest circle possible, but to move with precision and control.

As your pregnancy progresses, you may find that lying flat is no longer comfortable due to heartburn, shortness of breath, or the natural changes in your body. A pregnancy wedge provides gentle elevation while allowing you to continue the exercise safely. Your circles may become smaller, but the intention of the movement remains the same—maintaining mobility, improving hip function, and encouraging controlled movement.

You may notice occasional clicking or popping in your hip during this exercise. For many people, painless joint sounds are completely normal. If the movement is comfortable and does not produce sharp or shooting pain, there is generally no cause for concern. Always distinguish between the healthy effort of working muscles and pain that signals your body to stop.

Whether you're practicing on the mat or with a wedge, remember that movement is always about meeting your body where it is today. Every controlled circle helps maintain flexibility, supports healthy movement patterns, and prepares your body for the physical demands of pregnancy, birth, and recovery. Listen to your body, move with intention, and trust that even small, mindful movements have a meaningful impact.
